Blue Chicory Workshop

Malcolm Williams is an experienced hammock-tester (see photo), accomplished woodworker and expert hammock maker.

Blue Chicory Workshop is nestled in a picturesque valley in Lanark Highlands in Eastern Ontario, in the midst of the herbs, honeybees, fruits and veggies at Blue Chicory Garden.

Cedar, pine, ironwood and more, from our own woods, are lovingly harvested, milled and crafted onsite. Our forest is managed sustainably to encourage optimum growth for each variety and careful selection of trees to harvest. Each spring and fall our farm volunteers transplant seedlings from pathways where they've sprung up, to more permanent locations.

Hammocks:
The wood used for the stretchers that support the hammock ropes is ash because of its strength and outdoor longevity. Our friend Steve makes olefin rope in his Kingston workshop. It is strong, sturdy and soft: just what you want in a hammock! Olefin is UV-stable and dries quickly after a rain. Forest Green and Golden Sand are our customers' favourite colour choices.

At Blue Chicory, we like to work hard and play easy, so Malcolm's hammocks and hammock chairs are our favourite place to relax and unwind after a day in the garden or workshop.

As you can see, our hammocks aren't just for outdoor use. Fasten two screws into a ceiling joist in your living room or back porch, and you're ready to pull your feet up into your hammock chair.

Outdoor furniture:
Muskoka chairs, loveseats, footrests and tables are handcrafted in our workshop using cedar for beauty and longevity. The cedar can be stained to preserve the colour or left unstained to weather naturally to grey, at your preference. Muskoka chairs photo

Indoor furniture:
Malcolm creates tables, bookshelves and functional items such as rolling pins, salad forks, bookends, crokinole boards and more - all using wood from our own property: cedar, pine, ash, birch, poplar, black cherry.
