Bees love dandelions! One of the first things they do in the spring is lay eggs that will hatch into new worker bees, to build up the hive population after the long cold winter we had. Dandelion pollen is great food for the larval bees, and one of the first sources of food for them. In the photo you can see the orange pollen in the sac on her back leg. As other trees and flowers come into bloom, the bees will start collecting nectar and concentrating it into honey, so we still have a bit of a wait for this year’s honey.
